MALN Opinion+: Patrick Woodcock

Hugo Balta

Welcome to another episode of MALN Opinion+! We are excited to have a weekly program dedicated to discussing the concerns and opinions of Massachusetts’s Latino community.

We spoke with Commissioner Patrick Woodcock of the MA Department of Energy Resources about the pandemic’s impacts on the division and the state’s environment, environmental justice within Massachusetts, along with resources available to residents.

Commissioner Woodcock talked about the importance of healthy air quality—especially during the COVID-19 pandemic—and the DOER’s different pollution-focused initiatives. Along with addressing climate change and promoting clean energy use, he said the department is focused on improving program equity as participation rates among the DOER’s programs are usually drastically lower within communities of color, which are disproportionately affected by climate change.
